Are you ready to paint the Exterior or Interior of your home? If you’ve decided to Hire a Professional Painter, here are 8 tips to help you have the best experience.
1. Get a recommendation
Start by filling out our Find a PRO form and our team will connect you with a Preferred PRO Applicator in our network. Romabio Preferred PROs have technical training and love to use our products.
You can also ask a neighbor for a referral, search on NextDoor, and look for signs in yards of houses that are being worked on. It’s aways good to get a recommendation and then check the PROs photos, ratings and reviews to understand the experience for their customers.
2. Choose your products before hiring a PRO
This is big. Not all PROs know about all products or they may have biases when it comes to pricing or distribution. Do your own research first as PROs may not understand new products and technologies are available. We’ve been selling mineral and lime-based paints for over a decade and continue to educate the marketplace about why you should choose a breathable mineral paint for brick, stone, and other masonry but it took a long time for PROs to grasp the benefits. Romabio Preferred PROs understand our products and how to use them. Once you armed with knowledge, then you can ask you PRO the right questions.
3. Get a written quote and read it carefully
Most good PROs will give you a written quote but it’s important that you to take time to read it very carefully and to fully understand what it includes. This will be the contract that you can refer back to if something is not as you think it should be.
4. Sign off on your color before they purchase all of it
This applies to paint, flooring, and other materials. You can’t just tell them to pick a white as it won’t be the right white for your home. The color tones in your home are what you need to match so make sure you are good with the color before they start the project and buy it.
5. To spray or to roll . . . know what you are getting into
This is for paint projects, but it applies to other things as well. When you paint the Interior of your home some PROs prefer to roll and brush, and some prefer to spray. The advantage of spraying is they will be able to apply it faster and the paint usually looks better as there are no brush marks. However, it is a big fat pain to have PRO spray the Interior of your home when you are living there! I know, I did this in my home. You just have to be prepared because it will impact your daily life. Before they start, make sure you fully understand what your painter will be doing when they will be doing it to your home.
6. While a PRO is there, have them tackle other projects
If you have a professional painting, doing drywall, or building a deck, ask them if they can help on any other little projects you need completed. You’d be amazed at how handy most PROs are and many willing to add to the scope of your original project.
7. Final walk thru before you pay while the crew is still there
It seems obvious, but make sure you are home at the end of the project while the crew is still there and walk thru it to make sure you are comfortable with everything. Don’t let your PRO rush you as this is the time to say what think doesn’t look right. If the crew is still there they can fix it. Bringing them back is when things become a big pain.
8. Show the love
If you loved your PROs, give them a good review. This will help others decide if they should use them or not.
