I was watching HGTV last week. Someone asked a great question: “I love my limewash. How do I make it last?”
That got me thinking. If you work hard on a finish, you want it to look great for a long time. Our Classico Limewash is built to handle years of wear all on its own. It gets a beautiful, worn look over time.
But what if you live somewhere with a lot of rain or dirt? What if you want extra protection? We have two products that can help.
Meet Mineral Shield: Your Home’s Raincoat

You could call Mineral Shield an invisible raincoat for your home. It’s a clear topcoat that repels water. It protects your Romabio finish from damage caused by water. It won’t stop your Classico Limewash from breathing. But it will help stop algae, moss, and mold from growing. That means less scrubbing for you later. (If you read about my spring cleaning with our Algae and Moss Cleaner, you know how much I hate moss!)
Mineral Shield helps water roll right off. When water can’t soak in, your limewash ages more slowly. It also stays cleaner. This makes Mineral Shield great for the lower part of your outside walls, close to the ground. That’s where flower beds, bushes, mud, and grass often leave marks. You can brush it on or spray it with a garden sprayer. It’s that easy.
You can use Mineral Shield over many outdoor finishes. This includes Classico Limewash, Lime Slurry, Masonry Flat, and even unpainted stone or masonry.
Want your limewash to age naturally? Just put Mineral Shield on the areas that get the most rain and dirt. Let the rest age on its own.
Meet Decorative Topcoat Flat: Wash and Go
Want something tougher? Something easier to live with every day? Try Decorative Topcoat Flat. It goes over Classico Limewash, Velatura Mineralwash, Venetian Glaze, and Italian Slaked-Lime Plasters. It leaves a clear, low-shine finish that you can wash. (One note: don’t use it on High Gloss Grassello or Marmorino Satin finishes. Check your plaster first.) Once it’s on, your wall is much better protected from water, scuffs, and everyday messes.
That’s why this coating works so well in busy rooms. Think bathroom walls or kitchen backsplashes, where you need quick cleanup. (Spaghetti sauce splatters, I’m talking to you.) Just wipe it clean and move on with your day.

The same goes for your fireplace. Between soot, ash, and smudges from hauling in firewood or kids playing on the hearth, a fireplace can take a beating. A layer of Decorative Topcoat over your finish means those marks wipe away instead of settling in, so your fireplace stays the showpiece of the room season after season.
One of our recent collaborations features a total fireplace face lift using Lime Slurry and a coat of Decorative Topcoat to protect the finished look. Check it out on our Instagram here and check out @ashlee.annn for the full fireplace transformation
Decorative Topcoat also works great on full walls, inside or outside. One thing to know: it looks best when you use it on the whole wall, not just part of it. You can spot-treat with it, but then the finish won’t look the same from corner to corner.
Which One Should You Choose?
Worried about water, algae, moss, mold, or dirt stains on your exterior walls? Choose Mineral Shield.
Want a tougher, washable finish for inside or outside surfaces? Choose Decorative Topcoat.
Either way, your finish will last longer and look better. Ready to buy? Click here to find a Romabio retailer near you or order online.
