Mixing and tinting Romabio Paints.
Tinting Romabio Paints:
Unlike standard acrylic or latex coatings, Romabio mineral and lime-based paints have a naturally high pH that affects color development. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Wet paint appears darker than its final color.
- Color shifts significantly as it dries, reaching full depth only after curing completely.
- Subtle variation is intentional, creating natural movement and depth.
Best Practices for Color Matching:
- Start small: Begin with a reduced formula, tint, and shake thoroughly.
- Let it dry naturally: Allow test samples to dry completely in cool air. Never judge color while wet or force-dry with heat.
- Adjust gradually: Make small tint adjustments and re-test after each change. Always complete a test sample before full production to save time and product.
Using the Shaker Adapter:
Proper mixing is key to achieving consistent color. The Romabio Shaker Adapter allows standard 1L and 2.5L Romabio pails to fit securely into any standard 5-gallon paint shaker for a thorough, professional mix. Be sure to download the “how to” pdf and watch our How-to-Video.
What You’ll Need:
- Romabio Shaker Adapter with Inserts
- 1L or 2.5L Romabio paint pail
- Paint shaker/mixer (5-gallon compatible)
- Rubber mallet (recommended)
Before You Start:
- Ensure your shaker fits a standard 5-gallon setup.
- Verify the pail is securely closed and aligned correctly before shaking to prevent damage.
Assembly & Loading:
- Prepare the Insert: Remove the adapter lid and take out the black foam pad.
- For 1L pails: Keep the inner insert in place.
- For 2.5L pails: Remove the 1L inner insert. Align the pail ears with the side slots and fold the handle into the designated cutout.
- Secure the Unit: Place the pail into the insert, replace the foam pad on top, and reattach the lid. Lightly tap with a rubber mallet to ensure a tight seal.
- Shake: Load the assembled unit into the 5-gallon shaker and run your mixing cycle.
- Remove the Adapter: In the event paint has spilled onto foam inserts, rinse immediately as lime can corrode the foam.
After Mixing:
- Remove the pail from the adapter
- Reinsert the inner foam insert (for future 1L use)
- Store all parts together
Quick Tips:
- Double-check alignment and lid security before starting the shaker.
- Protect the foam: Keep all foam inserts clean, intact, and stored together.
- Inspect equipment: Regularly check the adapter for signs of wear and always keep free of wet paint.
