Mineral Shield is the best Waterproofer for your
Romabio Limewash Finish
Do you have water run-off on your chimney, downspouts, retaining walls, or other areas of your masonry home? Do these areas get lots of algae, moss and dirt on them? Are they hard to reach or clean? If so, you need Romabio Mineral Shield, an invisible coating that repels water off absorbent masonry surfaces.
Romabio Mineral Shield is a topcoat that helps prevents algae and moss growth, and reduces staining from clay, dirt, and grass. It’s not a sealer, but rather a formulation designed to waterproof porous masonry surfaces.
Where to Use Mineral Shield
Mineral Shield works when applied to porous, unsealed brick, stone, or other masonry surfaces. The best way to see if your surface is porous and absorbent is to throw some water on it and see if the water absorbs into the surface or if it beads up. If it beads up, it is nonabsorbent and unnecessary to apply Mineral Shield.
When you paint uncoated, absorbent brick or stone with Romabio paints the surface stays absorbent and is breathable. This is why Mineral Shield works perfectly and is designed to be applied to Romabio paint applications including Classico Limewash, Lime Slurry, Masonry Flat, and Masonry Textured.
Benefits of Romabio Mineral Shield
Mineral Shield is unique and has many benefits:
- Preserves the beauty and slows the patina of a Classico Limewash finish
- Does not discolor or change the sheen or finish of a Romabio paint application
- Prevents chalking of Classico Limewash on Interior fireplaces
- Protects the bottom three feet of your Exterior masonry against discoloration that occurs from splash-back of rain mixed with soil or snow build-up or staining from clay, dirt or grass
When to Use Mineral Shield
If you want to lock in your beautiful Classico Limewash finish and don’t want it to change anytime soon, then we highly recommend Mineral Shield on your whole application. Or, if you have more of an opaque finish and don’t want it to patina, you should apply Mineral Shield to all of it.
If you love the natural effect of the limewash patina, then you can wait to see how the paint weathers over time. It’s hard to determine when and how your Classico Limewash finish will weather as it depends on many factors like the volume of water hitting it, exposure to sun, and freeze/thaw.
There are certain areas that will patina and weather faster on any home like around hose bibs, downspouts, windowsills, chimneys, and ledges. These are areas that we recommend using Mineral Shield to slow the patina.
We also recommend it for areas that get heavy dirt or clay staining or have heavy algae and moss growth. This is where you’d use it on a painted Masonry Flat, Masonry Textured, or Lime Slurry application, especially if you have a beautiful white or lighter color as you will notice dirt and soil more. You can safely clean any Exterior surface first with our Algae & Moss Cleaner, then apply the Mineral Shield.
Refresh Your Classico Limewash Finish
If you have a Classico Limewash finish and it has too much weathering or patina for your liking, you can touch-up with Classico Limewash and then apply Mineral Shield. If it needs cleaning first, use Romabio Algae & Moss Cleaner, a safe, natural way to clean any Exterior surface (read more on this blog post).
Then, reapply the paint, distress it to get your original look, and wait 24-48 hours for it to completely dry. Once dried, apply Mineral Shield, the best waterproofing solution for your gorgeous finish.
