Durability of Lime Washed Brick & Masonry

The Lifespan of Limewash

Romabio Classico Limewash is a gorgeous addition to brick, stonework and masonry. Limewash gives an impression of antiqueness, of age, and stature and reminds us of historic Europe and the Mediterranean–Italy and Greece. Not only does it look great, it carries with it some amount of gravitas.

Since limewash paint is designed to intentionally look old, the more that limewashed brick and limewash exteriors age, the more true their look becomes. Over time, weathering will add character to the already beautiful Romabio limewash.

Does Limewash Wear Off Completely?

There will almost never be a day when limewashed brick or masonry looks bad or neglected. Through the years, weather and the elements will age the look.  You can slow down this process with Romabio Mineral Shield. Use this product to lock in the beauty of your original limewash paint.

While very durable, Classico Limewash has a lifespan and doesn’t last forever. The weather in your area will impact the number of years before you need to repaint. Mild winters and warm, calm summer weather are why limewash is commonly used in the Mediterranean. A limewashed exterior can easily last twenty to thirty years in a climate like this. But limewash also works perfectly in colder climates because it allows your brick to breathe.  The freeze/thaw process will actually enhance your limewash and you can use Romabio Mineral Shield to extend the life of your look. If you live in a place with extreme weather, particularly harsh rains and snows, then you can reapply your limewash as often as you want to keep the look you desire.

Does Limewash Hurt the Environment?

No, not at all. Limewash is made from limestone, and is perfectly safe and environmentally friendly. Even if water pours down your exterior walls and the lime gets into your garden, it will not poison your plants. Make note that lime does have a high pH, that can impact your soil, so you might need a different kind of fertilizer to balance that out. Your local garden shop can give you advice on what your, plants and soil need.

Durability isn’t the only reason our products are a great choice. Romabio Paints are mineral based and made with high-quality, natural ingredients that are toxin-free. They are easy to use, affordable, and extremely low maintenance. We strive to create the best products, and as a conscious company, we want all of our products to be sustainable for you, the environment, and the world at large.
