Brick is a versatile material that comes in various textures, colors, and styles with varying quality and permeability. We often receive inquiries about how our products will look on yellow brick. We get similar questions about other non-red brick, but homeowners with yellow brick are concerned that their brick won’t look right with a distressed limewash finish or that the color of the brick will show through or alter the color of the paint.
Don’t be reluctant to use our products on yellow brick. Romabio mineral and lime-based paints work just as easily on yellow brick as they do on red brick. We have different finishes that will give you varied looks whether you want to show the brick color a little bit or opt for full coverage.
4 Ways to Paint Yellow Brick
#1 Slightly distress limewash and let the character of yellow brick show through
Romabio Classico Limewash is a great finish for yellow brick especially if you want to be artistic and play with how much brick you want to expose. It is an opaque finish that will cover the brick, but your look will vary depending on how much you dilute and distress. Classico Limewash is easy to work with and allows you to create exactly the look you want, as once applied, you have 2-3 days to remove it. Touch-ups are easy too and can be done at any time. This swatch is a great example of Classico Limewash diluted 100% and lightly distressed, allowing the character of the yellow brick to show through.
#2 Get drama and texture with a solid lime finish that covers yellow brick
Romabio Lime Slurry is ideal for updating the color and texture of your yellow brick. Its thick, heavily textured finish provides a romantic, old-world finish. Our unique formulation allows it to harden like plaster but is easily applied like our other masonry paints in lighter, white base colors. PROs who love the textured finish but want it in a darker shade will apply Masonry Flat as a topcoat in their desired hue.
#3 Go bold and modern in a solid finish
Romabio Masonry Flat is the perfect paint to tint to light or dark colors. Masonry Flat will provide a beautiful full coverage finish over yellow brick and will not allow the color of the brick to bleed through. It is easily applied in two coats with no additional primer required on absorbent brick or stone. You can confidently paint the exterior of your home in both mild and extreme climates, becasue it comes with a 20-year warranty when applied as directed!
#4 Slightly shift yellow brick color for a semi-transparent or veiling effect
Romabio Venetian Glaze is an easy-to-use beautiful Italian lime glaze that when heavily diluted (100%-300%) creates veiling effects for subtle color-shifting. It’s a great way to match the tones of the rest of your home, especially if you have just a little section of yellow brick and don’t necessarily want to paint everything. If you have warmer tones on the rest of your home, use Avorio White or Cristillo White or for cooler tones use Bianco White, Nube Gray, or Feather. We recommend using Venetian Glaze on yellow brick when you just want a subtle color shift. It’s also a great choice if your yellow brick is not very absorbent and it won’t fully absorb Classico Limewash. To test your brick for absorbency, throw water on the brick and see if it beads up (non-absorbent) or if it soaks in (absorbent).
